A luminometer measures the output from its associated sampling device/test pen and gives a reading which is proportional to ATP concentration and thus an index of fouling. We highly recommend that ATP testing should be used as part of a water system’s routine monitoring program to assess fouling and fouling rates in the system, and therefore the effectiveness of any chemical treatments.

Simple procedure for use of AMSALite™ IV luminometer and test pens
- Sample: Remove sampling probe/stick from pen, dip in water sample, and reinsert into pen.
- Activate: Fully depress sample probe or snap top of pen (depends on pen type) and agitate.
- Measure: Insert pen into luminometer and take reading.
- Determine maximum reading: Repeat readings with same sample/pen until a maximum is reached.
- Determine if fouling index is stable, rising or declining: Monitor additional samples over time.
