Usage

Organic deposit control - Clean it up and keep it clean!

Method of use:

  • Clean-up mode: shock dose to penetrate, disperse, and remove organic deposits
  • Maintenance mode: continuous low level and/or periodic slug dose. DTEA II™, used in conjunction with a biocide, provides an effective biofilm control program.

Typical use levels for a cooling tower application (call us for specific recommendations):

  • Clean-up mode: 100 ppm (1 gal 15% DTEA II™/10,000 gal water system). Several doses per day.
  • Maintenance mode, slug dose: 50-100 ppm (0.5-1 gal 15% DTEA II™/10,000 gal water system) 1-3 times per week.
  • Maintenance mode, continuous dose: 15-30 ppm (based on blowdown rate)

DTEA II™ is an effective, non-phosphonate inhibitor for yellow metals (brass and copper) and, to a lesser extent, carbon steel. Initial lab evaluations on admiralty brass using linear polarization resistance (LPR) corrosion probes indicates that 3 ppm DTEA II™ has equivalent corrosion inhibitory properties to 1 ppm of either TTA or BZT. Also, low levels of phosphonate corrosion inhibitor supplemented with DTEA II™ can provide excellent protection for carbon steel. Initial results in the lab and in the field in small, high pressure boilers are also positive for aluminum corrosion inhibition.

It is proposed that corrosion is controlled by DTEA II™ in two ways:

  1. by formation of a protective film on the metal surface and
  2. promotion of clean surfaces which prevents under-deposit corrosion.

Yellow metal corrosion inhibition performance:

Laboratory testing using LPR techniques gave excellent results using 3 ppm DTEA II™ active ingredient. (method: B. P. Boffardi, "Corrosion and Fouling Monitoring of Water Systems," The Analyst, Technology Supplement 2010; 8-20).

Carbon steel corrosion inhibition performance:

Laboratory testing using corrators gave good to excellent results using 4.5 ppm DTEA II™ active with low levels of phosphonate (5 ppm). The results showed a five-fold improvement over phosphonate alone. In the field, DTEA II™ has been used with positive effects in combination with many typical mild steel corrosion inhibitors as well as being used alone as the primary carbon-steel corrosion inhibitor.
