DTEA II™ SR and DTEA II™ SR Plus SC slow release tablets are designed for treating water in small to medium-sized (<250 RT [refrigeration tons], <3,000 gal) cooling towers and other industrial water systems. One tablet treats approximately 25 RT or 300 gal.
DTEA II™ SR - The active ingredient is DTEA II™, an organic deposit penetrant and dispersant and yellow-metal corrosion inhibitor. The DTEA II™ SR tablet is designed to supplement other chemicals in a water treatment program including scale and corrosion inhibitors and biocides. The lifetime of this tablet is 1-2 weeks, depending on system conditions.
DTEA II™ SR Plus SC - The active ingredients are DTEA II™ plus added scale and corrosion inhibitors. This tablet may be suitable as a stand-alone deposit and corrosion control program, depending on individual system needs. The lifetime of this tablet is 3-4 weeks, depending on system conditions.
DTEA II™ SR and DTEA II™ SR Plus SC tablets are generally used as part of a program that also provides microbial control.
Economic benefits of using DTEA II™ tablets. Cost reductions in:
Chemicals – Organic deposit control and corrosion inhibition by DTEA II™ SR tablets reduce the overall usage and costs of corrosion and scale inhibitors, and especially biocide chemicals.
Labor – DTEA II™ SR Plus SC tablets provides month-long protection allowing one site visit per month instead of four. In addition, the use of solid tablets instead of liquids is simpler, safer, and more convenient. Bottom-line = big savings on labor costs.
Energy and equipment – No pumps or feeders required. Overall, effective protection provided by a convenient, economical treatment program means systems are likely to better maintained, run more efficiently, and last longer, with a net cost savings to customers.
Reduction in cost of chemicals
DTEA II™ tablet treatments are more economical than a standard chemical treatment program. The following chart depicts four possible scenarios in which DTEA II™ tablets are used for treatment of a 125 RT cooling tower. Dosages indicated below.

- Standard scale and corrosion chemical treatment program supplemented with DTEA II™ SR (5 tablets). DTEA II™ SR tablets are added every 1-2 weeks during normal site visits. Removal of organic deposits and corrosion inhibition by DTEA II™ SR tablets reduce the overall usage and costs of corrosion and scale inhibitors, and especially biocide chemicals.
- DTEA II™ SR Plus SC alone (5 tablets) – maintenance of a relatively clean system. Addition of DTEA II™ SR Plus SC at monthly intervals provides organic deposit, scale and corrosion control, and at the same time, greatly decreases the demand for biocide.
- DTEA II™ SR Plus SC with DTEA II™ SR (5 tablets of each) – cleanup and then maintain. In systems with more fouling, the two tablets can be used together in order to provide a high initial release of DTEA II™ from the DTEA II™ SR tablets and then protection of the system is provided by DTEA II™ SR Plus SC for the rest of the month.
- DTEA II™ SR Plus SC (5 tablets) with DTEA II™ SR (2 tablets) – boost and then maintain. In systems with moderate amounts of fouling, the two tablets can be used together to provide an initial boost of DTEA II™ from the DTEA II™ SR tablets and then protection of the system is provided by DTEA II™ SR Plus SC for the rest of the month.
Each of these scenarios also includes a program for microbial control.
Reduction in cost of labor
The following table illustrates how use of the DTEA II™ Plus SC tablet reduces the number of site visits per month from 4 to 1, a potential savings of 75%.
