DTEA Original - Dow Chemical
It was designed as an alkaline stable broad spectrum biocide and algaecide replacement which penetrated biofilm and also removed and tore off layered biofilm. Dow dropped the product in about 1999 at about the time it purchased the Angus and Union Carbide biocide lines. Original strategy called for marketing to Nalco, Betz, Calgon, Buckman, and related companies. AWT, small, and medium companies were to buy through distributors. (The new chemistry is called DTEA II™ and is available on a near exclusive basis to AWT. small, and medium companies.) TODAY - AMSA DTEA II™IT IS the Swiss army knife of water treatment:
Original Dow DTEA Cleaner (see improved DTEA IITM)The original Dow DTEA Cleaner was made with 15% decylthioethylamine, propylene glycol, water, and propionic acid. The chemical make up was identical to the biocide formula. The cleaner formula could not be used or claimed for biocidal purposes. Original Dow Antimicrobial DTEA BiocideThe original formula DTEA Biocide was EPA registered in 1993 by Dow Chemical. This included registration for use in key states, such as California. In addition, no UN Placard was needed and was shipped non-hazardous class. The main use was as a quick kill biocide, as listed below, that also removed and prevented biofilm.
